A headcover with a perfect fit gives you comfort so that you can focus on other difficult matters if you are experiencing hair loss due to chemotherapy treatment or other medical conditions such as alopecia. Although this blog is dedicated to our customers experiencing hair loss, most of the tips and tricks are suitable for the general public.

How to get your head circumference after losing your hair?
Take your head size by measuring around where you would like the hat to sit on your head, usually around your hairline so that you can get better coverage for your bald scalp — around the forehead and ears and nape of the head.
To get a full head cover, you need to have your ears covered when you wear a chemo headcover. So for chemo head covers, it is best to measure your head size by measuring your head with your ears under your measuring tape too. If your head circumference is different with or without ears under the measuring tape. Take the larger circumference as your head size circumference.
Step 1: Measuring your head around from the forehead to the middle of the crown
Step 2: Measuring your head around from the forehead to the bottom of the crown
Step 3: Measuring your head around from the forehead to the nape (bottom hairline)
Step 4: Take the largest measurement as your head size circumference.
Other tips and advice for measuring your head size for chemo headcovers:
Measure your head with a soft measuring tape. If you don’t have a tape measure, just use a string and measure the string with a ruler.
– Measure your head size a few times.
– Measure twice and “buy” once.
For summer hats, get a hat that is about 1cm bigger than your head size. This will increase air circulation because you may get too hot in warm seasons if a hat is tight. A snug fit is better for cooler seasons.
When buying hats in advance of the chemo treatment, your estimated head size will be your current head size minus your current hair volume. If you are going to wear a hat liner, your head circumference will be very close to your current head circumference, depending on the thickness of the hat liner.
If a chemo headcover is a surprise/gift, and you don’t want to ask the wearer for the head size, it is safer to buy a stretchable beanie, a turban, a bamboo hat or a one-size-fits-all scarf.
A nightcap shouldn’t be too loose, otherwise the cap won’t stay on your head.
Buy a day cap about 1cm bigger than your head size for all-day-long stressless comfort.

Other factors sometimes you might have to take into consideration when deciding whether headwear is going to fit are your “crown-height” (the “sellion-to-Vertex” length) and your “crown-length” (front to nape length), as illustrated below:
In most cases, there is no need to worry too much about your “crown-height” and “crown-length” as the average measurements of these two parts of your head are in the ratio of your head circumference. i.e. the longer your crown-length is, the bigger your head circumference is.
However, we encourage you to get headcovers with deeper/ flatter crowns if your “crown-height” and “crown-length” are out of average proportion to your head circumference.
Here are some interesting facts for your reference.
According to Wikipedia, the measurements of most adult women’s “crown-height” (sellion-to-vertex) fall within 9.0cm to 12.20cm, with the average women’s measurement being around 10.5cm. The “crown-height” measurement will affect the ‘crown-length” i.e. front-to-nape measurement. The higher your crown-height is, the longer is your crown-length.
Based on our limited data, for women with an average head size (56-57cm), the average front-to-nape measurement is about 35cm-37cm.
